Today, Clairol is a part of Procter & Gamble, but it was founded in 1931 by an American chemist and his wife, Lawrence and Joan Gelb. The found inspiration for their company’s name while traveling in France: Clairol is the name of a hair coloring preparation they discovered there. Clairol started off making hair color for salons, but in 1950 Clairol revolutionized hair care by bringing trusted and easy to use coloring home. Clairol has 6 lines: nice ’n easy, PERFECT 10, natural instincts, Herbal essences color, BALSAM, and Hydrience.
